The police in Stratford were called to the scene of an alleged drive-by shooting on West Avenue on August 1, 2020. It was a little before 5 pm when they received reports of multiple gunshots being fired. Witnesses say that the person shooting was in a moving vehicle and was likely aiming at another car.
The police found at least 3 cars with bullet holes in the nearby Colonial Village community. The cars were located on Suncrest Road. All 3 cars clearly had been sprayed with gunfire. The police believe these are the cars involved in the drive-by. However, to date, the police have not confirmed this. They indicated that it is likely that the two incidents are related. They also did not mention if anyone in the 3 vehicles suffered any sort of injury.
On August 19, 2020, the police arrested the suspect, 34-year old Frantz Maignan of Bridgeport. Maignan is said to reside on Summerfield Street. He was arrested by the Stratford police and then turned over to the authorities in Darien. Maignan is being held on $150,000 bond.
The defendant has been charged with 7 counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm. He has also been charged with reckless endangerment, criminal use of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. The reports did not confirm that Maignan was a convicted felon, but that is often the case with unlawful possession cases.
The reports did not indicate if anyone was harmed in the shooting. However, there was no mention of any charges for injuries resulting from the incident. The defendant will attend his first hearing later this week. He will likely be facing several years in prison. Any of these charges on their own would carry a stiff fine and jail sentence.
